SHARE+SUPPORT+SPORTSMANSHIP= 60 THE COLLECTIVE

Back in Late September or so i ran into Frankie Velez during the 2013 DUMBO Art Festival. "Me and CAM (Craig Anthony Miller) are working together on a big show in November at ReBar. We are going to showcase 60 artist, you want to be in it?" says Frankie. I couldn't believe what i was just asked but i took no time to reply "Hell f*&@#$% yea!!!" smiling from ear to ear, i gave him dap, a hug and told him it would be an honor.

The night of the event  finally came after a long and stressful day at work. It didn't start till 7pm but as usual i arrived early accompanied by +Yolanda Alamo of +Yoli Body Decor , Maria R, And Rashida C. around 6:35pm. We were greeted by the Rebar staff as soon as we reached the top of the stairs followed with  "Good evening glad you could make, its going to be crazy tonight" by one of the curators of the evening Frankie Velez. Always looking so busy, making his way from the back of the hallway came Craig Anthony Miller. All of us stood there for a minute chatting, then came in the guests. They were coming in by threes. Me and my guests then made our way to the music in the room to the right of  the hallway entrance. Playing eclectic hit after hit was +Ana Toledo better known as DJ Anamated. As she spun, she greeted us and engaged in a short convo. My brother Sean came through at the right time because i needed to take my meds (bob marley) then have a drink just to mellow out. Before i did that of course i had to go check out my work, the position and  lighting. I can't say i was satisfied but hey, I am truly blessed to be given such opportunities like this so i took it in stride. I asked my brother to take pics of everyones work (shown below) while i stepped out for a moment. I came back 10 minutes later and there was a nice size crowd. I turned around  to see who was coming in behind me and there was my mother and sister. I walked over to Frankie and asked for price list to give to them just incase they wanted to purchase some else's work besides their favorite artist work, ME, lol.
The energy was unbelievably amazing. As the night went on and my medication kicked in, along with $4 coronas the crowd got thicker and thicker. I made my rounds, viewed all the work displayed, said hello to mostly all the artist in the show and  to those that just came to show support to the show as a whole. I spent the rest of the evening by my piece being that it was in the back and did what i do; interact with people.
"LIVE: Love, Peace,..."
By Kenny Hardwork
12x12/ Mixed Media on wood
$265

I wanted to do a interactive conversational piece so i came up with this, not to mention make it friendly to all ages. Some people walked by thinking it wasn't worthy of attention but hey I can't intrigue and please everyone. Others that walked by that seemed interested, i asked them what did it say. The responses I got was Time, Live (right now), Live(to live), II ME. Lol, It actually says LIVE (to live) but to get all those different answers i knew i was successful with what i wanted to accomplish. The reason the middle pot is not painted any color is to not only show the process (foundation of the piece) but also because its left up to the viewer to decide the one thing they live for besides the other two which is love and peace.

Is it a finished piece? YES. If you are a true art enthusiasts or have even seen different styles/ types of art, if an artist hangs it and signs it, its finished. There are pieces in MOMA and other museums that are...... any way moving right along. Is it really worth $265? No its worth a lot more. You've never seen a bonsai look so bushy? Actually there are over 400 different type of bonsai trees, not including the cross breeds. Do I have more detailed work? I sure do. Check out my work on my blog.

The event was a great success.

I do think we as artists and curators do need to educate & interact with people about ourselves and our work. This is OUR ERA, we must not allow society or anyone to exploit us, determine what's hot, or let the past overshadow us.

*I'm not only a Super Artist with multiple talents,  and yada yada yada but i am also a genuine supporter of several artists, especially in the NYC Art scene.  I'm a strong believer in contributing to an event, every single person involved should promote it, but not overdoing it on one platform. Even if i didn't sell my piece i wanted others to have a chance, as its supposed to be, and vice versa.
